Andy Chapman tells his story of taking part in the British Transplant Game as a member of #GoTeamKent
Taking part in the British Transplant Games this year was an incredible experience for me and my family.
Before I found out I was in kidney failure, we were always an active family — but after transplant, the Games gave me a new focus and a chance to celebrate just how far I’ve come.
This event isn’t just about competition; it’s about life, resilience, and the amazing community of people who share a similar journey. I was proud to come away with:
🥈 2nd place – 7.6km Cycling Time Trial
🏊 6th place – 50m Freestyle Swim
🥈 2nd place – 1500m Athletics
But the real highlight was the people. Over the weekend, we made new friends, found support, and shared stories with others who truly understand what it means to live with — and thrive after — a transplant.
If you’re thinking about it but aren’t sure, my advice is simple: give it a go. You don’t need to be a super athlete to take part. Whether you’ve exercised before or not, the Games are welcoming to everyone. You might just surprise yourself with what you can achieve, and along the way you’ll gain a whole new family of friends who will cheer you on every step of the way.
